DAVE BROOKS
I started my cabinetmaking apprenticeship in 1989 working my way up the ranks for 16 years.
At the start of 2006 I started my own business, Brooks Creative Cabinets, specialising in solid timber custom kitchens and designer cabinets.
It takes a lot of time to film and put together each Bushman Brooks episode, but being my own boss gives me the flexibility to do so.
I started shooting arrows from bamboo bows that I made back when I was six. I would make arrows from Stinking Rogers (a weed that grew around my home) and fletch them with chook feathers. I bought my first real bow and started shooting indoor archery when I was 17. I've come a long way from bamboo and chook feathers (as lethal as they can be) and here are the bows I've owned over the years:
Bear - York - Martyn Linx - Hoyt Defiant - Hoyt Vortec - Hoyt Vipertec - Hoyt Ultratech - Hoyt Trykon
Current Bow - Hoyt Katera

In 3D tournaments I was consistently shooting scores around 94/100. At the end of 2001 I was named Australian Shooter of the Year (hunter division). In 2002 I equalled the Australian record 492/500 at Ewen Maddick Dam on the Sunshine Coast, QLD. Over the years I have accumulated many trophies, fantastic memories and friends through the 3DAAA club. To find out more see: www.3daaa.com.au
I started studying bush tucker and medicine, bushcraft and survival about 18 years ago. I learned from hands-on experience and from plenty of reading and research.
I have hunted almost every terrain in Australia and just about every sort of feral animal from the tip of Cape York in the North, the bottom of Victoria in the South, from way out Western NSW and Central Australia, to the roof top, The Snowy Mountains.
Bowhunting is my passion and the satisfaction I get out of the whole experince with a bow has slowly lured me away from hunting with a rifle. However, I do have a love of rifle shooting and have been taught to shoot, from a very young age, by my father, who was taught by his father.
Being skilled in both disciplines means I can adapt my hunting to the terrain and quarry. I also love fishing and have fished many miles of coastline, rivers and dams all around Mainland Australia, Tasmania and King Island.
Please keep an eye on this website for more information about the "Swammock",
the all-terrain swag/hammock hybrid as seen in the special features
of The Border Ranges DVD.
